In the fall of 1987, several of Elizabethtown's existing industries began informal discussions of their need for upgrading the skills of their employees. With the help of the Elizabethtown/Hardin County Industrial Foundation and the Hardin County Plant Manager's Association, a training program was organized by local industry, Elizabethtown Community College, and Elizabethtown Technical College to provide the training needed. A charter membership group was formed to satisfy this purpose and direction, and began operating under the title of the Elizabethtown Industrial Foundation Training Consortium (EIFTC).
Although the initial course offerings were in the maintenance area, the selection has broadened to include computer applications, regulatory, and management. Thus far, several thousand participants from over 50 businesses, industries, government agencies, and the general public have attended EIFTC courses.
The unique success of the EIFTC is the result of excellent cooperation among business and industry, the Elizabethtown/Hardin County Industrial Foundation, Elizabethtown Community College, and the Elizabethtown Technical College.
